SUMMARY:Online-Audio Psoas Course | Summer 2020
DESCRIPTION:  \n \nWhat Participants Are Saying… \nFrom the very first class\, learning how to think about the psoas as bio-intelligent tissue\, something has ignited in me. \nMy work these past 8 years with Chi Nei Tsang has been geared towards that with the whole body\, but something in the way you teach brought it more imminent. \nYour voice and actual delivery of information is the best way to release a tight Psoas! \nAbsolutely loving your teleclasses\, really validating the movement practices I’m so into (rolling\, grounding\, unraveling\, authentic movement etc) and backing it all up in the bio-intelligent paradigm. I’m learning loads! \nThis has been the best thing I have done for my Psoas. I am just sorry I did not do it sooner. \nI wanted to thank you for a truly enlightening class. I LOVE your investigations\, understanding of the psoas and integrative\, eye-opening perspectives. I really enjoyed this teleclass and hope to learn more from you in the near future! \nI just listened to the class recording and it is excellent\, I was especially moved by the details\, like your deft address of the word “attached”…as in “the Psoas is attached to…”  that is just lovely and restful to hear. \nI am finding your Psoas teleclass very useful and juicy – can’t wait to hear the next class! \nI want you to know that your words have such a resonance with my view of how enormous are the manifestations of the body beyond elemental anatomy.  Your clarity has affected how I begin the invitation to experience the movement of weight\, tissue\, and breath as one healing self; your clarity transforms (as a yoga teacher) my beginning into each person’s own inviting. This transformation has been remarkable to see. Coming upon your work is a magnificent meal for my begging bowl!  May I share this vitality\, and my thanks” \nInformative & practical: Exercises were assigned that were actually possible to do at home without personal contact with the instructor\, and I could do these exercises within the first day. \nValuable insight into how to work with a muscle that is a common problem for many of my clients. \nA most valuable class for postural and pelvic awareness – I learned how to sit more comfortably\, and I learned how to avoid exacerbating some SI joint problems I have. The physical therapy exercises I’d been given had only worsened my back/pelvic pain\, but I found Liz’s exercises and skillful observations to be profoundly helpful in reducing my pain and correcting my pelvic alignment. \nI’m really enjoying it very much and learning heaps. I love your languaging around all the issues and topics you are raising – inspirational. As a yoga teacher\, it seems that more and more I am moving towards an understanding and learning about neutrality\, equanimity\, balance\, and that my practice is about embodying that. Gradually I am finding that my yoga practice and teaching is not about mastering a particular shape with my body\, but more of an exploration of dynamic movement\, resolving towards balance\, presence\, and ease. \nGreat class\, I am excited by this fresh take on the core. \nListen LIVE or Listen to the class recording at your leisure after each class for the length of the course. \nFive consecutive Wednesdays\, from 4 pm to 5 pm PDT\, 6 pm to 7 pm CDT\, and 7 pm to 8 pm EDT (and to all international students – enjoy the recording on your timeline).  Listen to each one-hour virtual class\, from the comfort of your own home. Plus receive free coaching support for the entire 5-week course via email.  Registration cost is $220.00 (no early/or late dates to sign up) \nATTENTION – this course is NOT a webinar. It is an audio online course designed to help you develop your sensory system through the art of listening. \nThe class covers basic aspects of the Psoas\, its functioning\, effects\, and recommended explorations for weekly homework. No two series are exactly alike as each series is  live\, unique\, and includes updated information. If you attend live your time to ask questions\, explore problems\, and discover new emerging ideas after each class. \nYou’ll receive personal email coaching with premium email access to me throughout the length of the 5-week course.  Email me your personal or professional psoas questions\, problems\, and concerns.  I will attempt to provide with a quick response each time and to support your healing and educational process. \nShould you wish to join me you are responsible for your telephone/skype costs (i.e. long distance or phone minutes) when attending the live class lecture. Or listen to the class recording each week for free on your computer.  The recorded class will be sent to you within 24 hours after each class by email. Each recorded class may be listened to throughout the length of the series with the last class having 5 weeks for review after the live class ends. \nIMPORTANT NOTE: The recordings are NOT downloads and require a flash to listen to on your phone. \n\nClass Day One (June 2\, 2020)\n\nIntroduction\nDiscover all about your Psoas\nLocation\nFunction\nHip flexor\nTensile structure\nPsoatic shelf (supports organs)\nHydraulic pump (massages)\nFear reflex (flee/fight)\n\n\nClass Day Two (June 9\, 2020)\n\nConnecting The Psoas: Relationships\nSkeletal support\nJoint rotation\nMuscle flexibility\nOrgan functioning/ breathing\nPregnancy and birth\nEarly movement patterns\nEmotional well-being\n\n\nClass Day Three (June 16\, 2020)\n\nSimple Ways of Understanding The Complex Psoas\nTrauma and the Sympathetic Nervous System\nWhy Palpation & Manipulation Should Be Avoided\n\n\nClass Day Four (June 23 2020)\n\nPsoas Injuries: Why they happen and how to avoid them\nResolving Trauma: the difference between release and resolution\n\n\nClass Day Five (June 30\, 2020)\n\nHow to maintain a healthy vibrant dynamic Psoas\nSupportive fitness/bodywork protocols\nSumming It all Up\n\n\n\n \nNational Certification Board for Therapeutic Massage & Bodywork (NCBTMB) Approved \nThis is approved by the National Certification Board for Therapeutic Massage & Bodywork for 5 hours of continuing education credit (CEU). SUMMARY:ONLINE - Stalking Wild Psoas Workshop NCBTMB Accredited
DESCRIPTION: \n\n\n\n \nAn ONLINE 4-day process-oriented\, play and re-wilding psoas workshop focused on restoring\, through nourishing\, the bio-intelligent psoas using micro-non-linear\, multi-dimensional\, fluid movement\, and sound frequency. SUMMARY:FLUID CORE ~ A Way Out of Freezing Fear (via Zoom)
DESCRIPTION:F L U I D  C O R E \nA Way Out of Freezing Fear \nMAY 7th \n(2-Hr Movement Class via Zoom) \n \nFear is the only instinct that has the power to immobilize us. As an involuntary muscle\, psoas as part of the sympathetic neuro-core* is both a primal mover of our core integrity and part of our fear response.  When we misuse our psoas we ultimately end up energetically depleting our life force and physiologically stressing our adrenals. The upper psoas located in the solar plexus is often referred to in Traditional Chinese Medicine as the “will center\,” is the home of our adrenal glands and our immune system. These glands rest on top of our kidneys while our kidneys float on the juicy psoas.  Both adrenals and kidneys are energetically associated with our vitality. Returning the core to its natural fluid and expressive nature is a subtle but beneficial strategy for dissolving old patterns for achieving safety. When we regain our fluid spine and soften our upper psoas\, rather than manipulate our core\, we offer our kidney/adrenals a juicy\, fluid\, and dynamic support.\nSimultaneously we claim our birthright by discovering our deep-rooted sense of ground within the belly core that is so profoundly nourishing. Moving from within our very bones allows life to support us. By living on the axis of our core\, we nourish a harmonious relationship with gravity that enables us to stand our ground while wholeheartedly expressing our true selves. That is\, we show up fully in life. \nLiz Koch  is an international educator\, author\, and creator of CoreAwareness™ focusing on awareness as key for developing human potential and awakening consciousness. With 45 years experience specializing in the human core\, Liz is recognized in the somatic\, bodywork\, and fitness professions as an authority on the core tissue called the Psoas.  Both nationally and internationally published\, her works include The Psoas Book\, Unraveling Scoliosis CD\, Core Awareness; Enhancing Yoga\, Pilates\, Exercise & Dance\, Psoas & Back Pain CD\, Mother\, Maiden\, Crone: Our Pleasure Playlist and her new book  Stalking Wild Psoas: Embodying Your Core Intelligence (2019 North Atlantic Books)

SUMMARY:2-Hr Moving White(ness) Collaboration with Natasha Stovall PhD (ZOOM)
DESCRIPTION:“The couch in my therapy office is occupied mostly by white people. Anxious white people and depressed white people. Obsessive white people and compulsive white people. White people who hurt people and white people who hurt themselves. White people who eat too much\, drink too much\, work too much\, shop too much. White people who are bored\, envious\, guilty\, numb. Racist white people and antiracist white people. White people who look across the room and see a white therapist listening. We talk about everything. Except being white.” \n~ Natasha Stovall – Whiteness on the Couch  ~ \n                                                                                                                                              Photo Credit sep–ecxmibgssdm unsplash  \nJoin Somatic educator Liz Koch & clinical Psychologist Natasha Stovall in a 2-hour exploration of our white-ness from both a personal\, social\, physical and even a pandemic perspective. How do we create and live with a newly coherent narrative of ourselves as white bodies and white people? What sort of changes in our selves and in our actions would it take to “live our whiteness” in a new and different\, non-oppressive and less oppressed way?  \nUsing biologically-intelligent movements we will venture into the “frozen” disassociated response within our own core and invite ourselves to dissolve the historically defended rigidity found within the “white-posturing” spine to discover our inner sense of self as living beings.  Through conceptual and embodiment practices we will awaken a different consciousness from the one society has provided us.   \n                                                                                                                                                    \n                                                                                                                                                                   Photo credit-Ines Castellano-unsplash \nAs we begin to dissolve the insistence within the the objectified body we may integrate and participate in a larger conversation of human existence. By creating a multi-layered understanding of our white experience we offer the opportunity to alter the ways cultural whiteness damages our selves\, our fellow human beings\, and life on earth. As we begin imaging reparative ways of being we can create opportunities to generate healing for our world\, our ancestors\, and all future generations. \n  \nNatasha Stovall Ph.D. is a clinical psychologist in private practice working with adults\, adolescents and children. Her essays and cultural criticism have appeared in The New York Times\, Rolling Stone\, and Spin. Her most recent essay\, “Whiteness on the Couch”\, appeared in Longreads in August 2019. \n  \n  \n  \n  \nLiz Koch  is an international educator\, author\, and creator of CoreAwareness™ focusing on awareness as key for developing human potential and awakening consciousness. SUMMARY:ONLINE Embodying WiLD Wise Woman A 5-Week Course in Questioning (ZOOM)
DESCRIPTION:Embodying The WiLD Wise Woman \nA 5-Week Online Course in Questioning \n                                                                               This is the moment\, this very moment… \nAn invitation to stop tip-toeing around the patriarchal over-culture\, to stop sleepwalking through life\, to stop running from\, or running to\, and to simply p a u s e…. Now is the time to ask the hard questions. To nourish the animal body. To look inward and pick up the key that awakens\nthe WiLD wise woman within you \nNo more waiting for the right moment… the right moment is NOW \nWe are all filled with longing for the wild. \nThere are few culturally sanctioned antidotes for this yearning. \nWe were taught to feel shame for such a desire. \nWe grew our hair long and used it to hide our feelings. \nBut the shadow of the Wild Woman still lurks beneath us during our days and in our nights. \nNo matter where we are\, the shadow that trots behind us is definitely four-footed. \n                                                                                            –Clarissa Pinkola Estés \nThis 5- week course is brewing…as we shape this time together we sense into the aliveness of this moment…the concepts to be explored between three collaborating women and all of you.  This course invites slowing down\, moving within\, and self-questioning as the means of inhabiting the inner Wise Woman. During our work together\, we will examine the various archetypes\, symbols\, motifs\, and life lessons found in the chosen myth Bluebeard to draw a direct line to Wild Woman. As we journey alongside one another\, we will be led through dark lands\, where we too\, will find fragmented parts of our own psyche in order to piece our wild selves back together\, bone by bone.\nLet the explorations begins… \n\nSHRINKING – getting smaller to be the “Bigger Person” (name what you see\, feel\, smell\, hear in the art of discernment). Seeing the story of our own naïve woman and her behavior of fawning\n\nMUZZLING – entrapping the “Good (nice) Girl” (don’t ask questions cause too much trouble; you’ll be nosey\, overwhelming\, pushy) Hearing the story of “still-enabling\,” freezing\, and dismissing – catching a “LIVE” one.\n\nGUTTING – cutting off vital Intuitive Knowing. (the wound of being dis-emboweled). Tasting the wise womb\, learning to listen to our ovaries\, licking our wounds.  Scars stories of C-Sections and Hysterectomies.\n\nNAMING – standing ground\, facing\, longing\, cunning (awakening the animal body). The body never lies…Smelling the blood scent of gut instincts and inner knowing. Stories of igniting the wild womb\, laughing and awaken the creative belly core. \n\nDEVOURING –  feeding and tending the WiLD creative Wise Woman. Movement as medicine and story as tracking. Singing over the bones and other tenacious stories of instinctual power and sweetness. \n\n \nBLUEBEARD tells the tale of sabotage—both from within and from without. It speaks of a predatory force\, known as the Saboteur. This force is in all of us and can make its presence known anywhere\, whether it be in the marketplace\, the local bar\, the classroom\, or in the privacy of one’s own mind. The objects of our desire\, as devised by the Saboteur\, are fool’s gold\, which always proves subversive and destructive. This incredibly powerful force is one we must reckon. \nThere are ways to track the Saboteur\, to discover the key questions that open the doors to knowing.  By discerning approaches\, and discovering our inner resources within the wild body\, we can call into play the forces designed to challenge the Saboteur’s seductive power. In so doing\, we bring the Saboteur out from the shadows of our unawareness and into the light of our better knowing. \nIn a supportive and nurturing environment\, these sessions will explore how the movements within the story and the movements of our bodies work together to provide insight into our life stories and psyches… \nMove from constraint and restriction to expansion in the journey toward knowing \nDeepen your experience with knowing and choice making \nEmbody the capacity to live fully and in your power to prevail against seemingly inevitable habits\, forces\, and conventions \nCOLLABORATORS… \nLiz Koch is a conceptual artist\, international somatic educator\, and the author of Stalking Wild Psoas: Embodying Your Core Intelligence.  \nKristy Taylor M.Ed.\, C.C.C. is a Canadian counselor focusing on insight therapy and the Wise Woman’s journey to embody wholeness. \nDeborah Schnitzer Ph.D\, National 3M Teaching Fellow is a teacher\, writer\, filmmaker and retired professor emerita of English at the University of Winnipeg.  Her fiction and film projects can be found at her personal website https://deborahschnitzer.com \n  \nNOTE: this course is a live course and will not be recorded.  Please check your time zone to see if it works.  If not\, please let us know you are  interested as we will be offering this course again for those of you outside this time range.  \n    KEY ~  Photo credit: Michael Dziedzic Unsplash  \n   FOREST ~  Photo by Johannes Plenio Unsplash \n  \n\n \n\n

SUMMARY:Online-Audio Psoas Course | Early Spring 2020
DESCRIPTION:Psoas Audio-Course Begins February 5 \n \nWhat Participants Are Saying… \nFrom the very first class\, learning how to think about the psoas as bio-intelligent tissue\, something has ignited in me. \n\nClass Day One (February 5\, 2020)\n\nIntroduction\nDiscover all about your Psoas\nLocation\nFunction\nHip flexor\nTensile structure\nPsoatic shelf (supports organs)\nHydraulic pump (massages)\nFear reflex (flee/fight)\n\n\nClass Day Two (February 12\, 2020)\n\nConnecting The Psoas: Relationships\nSkeletal support\nJoint rotation\nMuscle flexibility\nOrgan functioning/ breathing\nPregnancy and birth\nEarly movement patterns\nEmotional well-being\n\n\nClass Day Three (February 19\, 2020)\n\nSimple Ways of Understanding The Complex Psoas\nTrauma and the Sympathetic Nervous System\nWhy Palpation & Manipulation Should Be Avoided\n\n\nClass Day Four (February 26\, 2020)\n\nPsoas Injuries: Why they happen and how to avoid them\nResolving Trauma: the difference between release and resolution\n\n\nClass Day Five (March 5\, 2020)\n\nHow to maintain a healthy vibrant dynamic Psoas\nSupportive fitness/bodywork protocols\nSumming It all Up\n\n\n\n \nNational Certification Board for Therapeutic Massage & Bodywork (NCBTMB) Approved \nThis is approved by the National Certification Board for Therapeutic Massage & Bodywork for 5 hours of continuing education credit (CEU). SUMMARY:Remote Audio Psoas Course | early spring 2019
DESCRIPTION:Psoas Audio-Class Begins Tuesday\, February 19\,  2019 \n \nWhat Participants Are Saying… \nFrom the very first class\, learning how to think about the psoas as bio-intelligent tissue\, something has ignited in me. \nFive consecutive Tuesdays\, from 4 pm to 5 pm PDT\, 6 pm to 7 pm CDT\, and 7 pm to 8 pm EDT (and to all international students – enjoy the recording on your timeline).  Listen to each one-hour virtual class\, from the comfort of your own home. Plus receive free coaching support for the entire 5-week course via email.  Registration cost is $220.00 (no early/or late dates to sign up) \nATTENTION – this course is NOT a webinar. It is an audio class – designed to help you develop your sensory system through the art of listening. SUMMARY:Spring Remote Audio-Class 2018 (VALENTINE SPECIAL)
DESCRIPTION:Psoas Tele-Class Begins Tuesday\, February 6th\, 2018 \n \nWhat Participants Are Saying… \nFrom the very first class\, learning how to think about the psoas as bio-intelligent tissue\, something has ignited in me. \nFive consecutive Tuesdays\, from 4 pm to 5 pm PST\, 6 pm to 7 pm CST\, and 7 pm to 8 pm EST (and to all international students – enjoy the recording on your timeline). \nIMPORTANT NOTE: The recordings are NOT downloadable.  \n\nClass Day One (February 6\, 2018)\n\nIntroduction\nDiscover all about your Psoas\nLocation\nFunction\nHip flexor\nTensile structure\nPsoatic shelf (supports organs)\nHydraulic pump (massages)\nFear reflex (flee/fight)\n\n\nClass Day Two (February 13\, 2018)\n\nConnecting The Psoas: Relationships\nSkeletal support\nJoint rotation\nMuscle flexibility\nOrgan functioning/ breathing\nPregnancy and birth\nEarly movement patterns\nEmotional well-being\n\n\nClass Day Three (February 20\, 2018)\n\nSimple Ways of Understanding The Complex Psoas\nTrauma and the Sympathetic Nervous System\nWhy Palpation & Manipulation Should Be Avoided\n\n\nClass Day Four (February 27\, 2018)\n\nPsoas Injuries: Why they happen and how to avoid them\nResolving Trauma: the difference between release and resolution\n\n\nClass Day Five (March6\, 2018)\n\nHow to maintain a healthy vibrant dynamic Psoas\nSupportive fitness/bodywork protocols\nSumming It all Up\n\n\n\n \nNational Certification Board for Therapeutic Massage & Bodywork (NCBTMB) Approved \nThis is approved by the National Certification Board for Therapeutic Massage & Bodywork for 5 hours of continuing education credit (CEU).
