Fluid Core ~ Metabolizing Fear
February 11 @ 11:00 am - 1:00 pm
Whether recoiling in fear or arcing in deep defense, the psoas is at best referred to as an “emotional” muscle.
Signaling survival responses, this primal messenger relays disruptions and compensations that threaten core integrity. Just as every coherent animal in the wild kingdom sends messages, humans, like all mammals, gesture with the twitch of an ear, a gleam in the eye, a hair standing on end, an arc of the spine. Ignoring the wild nature of psoas can be very dangerous.
Exploring biological expressions of core or what I have coined “stalking wilding psoas,” awakens a longing for a language akin to our actual somatic lived-experience. Psoas behaves quite differently than any other tissue that traditional anatomy defines as muscle. More of an organ of perception, something more akin to our clever tongue, this primitive tissue signals whether or not we are out of sync with the earth’s gravitational field. Encoded with survival responses that instantaneously ignite a response of danger, psoas is subtle and nuanced. Our psoas expresses both fear (survival) and pleasure (thriving). Psoas speaks not only to dissociative behaviors resulting from birth but also to an array of other adaptive strategies that can interrupt coherency and direct knowing.
Learning how to metabolize fear is a process of nourishing our psoas that deepens our connection to earth and community where we find the ability and support to regulate and be deeply held.
