A Conceptual Shift Made Potent Through Movement
Our languaging of body is rapidly changing. The limited, isolated biomechanical language that once defined and shaped our perception of self and other is dissolving. Burgeoning is a biologically rich vocabulary based on a wild calling; coaxing and inviting us to deconstruct and decolonize our static conceptual framework so we can be “claimed” and emerge from isolation to embrace life as cooperative, expressive, and creative. Now is the time to dissolve the old story and inhabit the new paradigm of body as a living process.
You and I have a part to play. This new paradigm is paramount as it supports what always has been and always will be: an awakening of coherent life on Earth.
Our spine as a living river is not an imaginary enchantment or a contrived self-expression but a direct sensory experience – a rolling earth movement in the epicenter of our being that can feel like a sweeping tsunami or a tiny rivulet of movement. Osteopath Andrew Still illuminates“the soul of man with all its pure living water seems to dwell in the fascia of his body.”18 Living water activated within our tissue is a magic potion, a potent elixir accessible through the vastness of our own fluid system. The stirring of a wave motion can be witnessed in the flow of an unfurling leaf, the gesture of an octopus, and it can be felt-sensed within our lush spine. The undulating wave motion is a sacred re-emergence conveying that all life is essential. Fluid movement holds the power to dissolve the familiar and dilute social conditioning. No dismantling required: we simply allow fluid waves to spread through tissue and soften our old thought forms and outmoded patterns of behavior. By utilizing embryological and biomorphic motifs, the power inherent in water can be received as a pulse of renewal.
